Drugstore Kisses

There are some things you just don’t want to spend a lot of money on. Bright, punchy, trendy lip colors are one of those things for me. Today I’ll be sharing my favorite drug store lipsticks with you in hopes that you’ll find something to try that will push you out of your beauty comfort zone without breaking the bank.

Here are my three favorite drugstore brand lipsticks:

Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick – If you’re looking for a matte finish that won’t dry out your lips this is the lipstick for you. It’s a suede finish, which isn’t quite matte to be honest, but is much more comfortable to wear. It stays in place all day long and always looks fabulous. My go to color is Muse, which is a hot Barbie pink that works year round when I want something punchy but not red. My only recommendation is that you stay with the brighter and deeper colors, some of the softer ones can look really off in the suede finish.

Rimmel London Lasting Finish Lipstick Kate Moss Collection – If suede isn’t for you because you want a truly matte pout, this is the collection for you. It’s surprisingly moisturizing and leaves my lips feeling wonderful all day. I must say that their formula is spot on! These do have a stronger scent to them, but I find it pleasant if a bit over the top. My go to is color 102, which is a watermelon pink that’s super fun.

Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick – This line of lipsticks is a classic for a reason. They’re by far the best drugstore brand lipstick in existence. I currently own Cherries in the Snow, Terra Copper, Lovers Coral, and Plum Velour. They have a wide array of finishes but every one of them is moisturizing and stays in place all night long. The packaging is classic and gorgeous and I can’t say enough good things about the product inside. If you’re wanting to try a new color, start here. I’d pay double the price for lipstick this good. (But don’t tell them that! haha)

Instant Brows

To be honest, I never gave my brows much thought. I’ve never waxed them and only started tweezing them in college when my sorority insisted that everyone get their brows shaped before rush. (High maintenance much? :p) However, in the past year or two I started to notice that brows were making a statement (ha!) in the beauty world. So, I sucked it up and went to my local Ulta in search of a brow pencil in order to see what all the hype was about.

I settled on Benefit’s Instant Brow Pencil and, as you can see, ended up using it quite a bit. “Light to Medium” was a great shade for my fair skin and blonde hair, and the comb on the other end meant that I could brush my eyebrows into place and smudge any harsh lines all at once. It’s simple, easy, and quick which is perfect for someone like me who doesn’t even like to think about her eyebrows. My favorite thing is that it’s natural enough to use during the day for a no-makeup look, but lasts long into the night. Basically, it REALLY upped my brow game.

If you’re looking to get into this whole emphasized brow look, this is a great gateway product! Let me know what you think!

Lily Lolo

Most days I use a liquid foundation, but on weekends I like having a mineral option. I feel like mineral powders let my skin breathe more than liquid or synthetic powder formulas. Most weekends I try to have one day “off” where the only makeup I wear is mascara and lip balm, but there are occasions when going bare just won’t work. That’s where mineral foundation steps in.

I’ve used many different brands of mineral makeup over the years, but it was only recently that I discovered Lily Lolo. Based in London, they’re the producers of a majorly loved cult foundation.

I wasn’t happy with my drugstore brand mineral foundation, but didn’t want to shell out a ton of cash on a designer brand. I decided to give Lily Lolo a try mainly because they let me order sample sizes. For just $6 I was able to choose up to three different foundation shades (I only chose two, knowing I’d be one of the two lightest) in small sizes.

When the package arrived I was surprised by just how small the jars were. Thankfully, a little goes a long way. I was able to get a full week of wear out of one sample. I credit this mainly to the fact that Lily Lolo’s formula is highly pigmented. With one light coat all of my skin was even and blemishes were covered – no need for concealer!

It’s also very buildable. If I’m going out at night and want something with a bit more “show” I’ll add a second layer. The best part is that even with two layers it never got cakey and always looked natural. I truly believe that makeup is meant to enhance, not cover. Given that, it was nice that this foundation matched the texture of my skin- it looked like I just had perfect skin. That’s the goal of foundation isn’t it?

So, if you’re in the market for a new mineral powder, give Lily Lolo a try. You’ll be able to find your shade and test your skin for reactions before you invest a ton of money. If only every cosmetic company worked that way!

Milky Jelly

Question: What happens when you crowdsource skincare?

Answer: You get a FABULOUS product.

This is truly the case with Glossier’s latest release. Yes, the company known for it’s Boy Brow and Balm Dotcom has finally released a cleanser and it’s everything we hoped it would be. Glossier’s Milky Jelly Cleanser is groundbreaking in its effectiveness. Instead of just being a cleanser, it’s a conditioning face wash. It can be used like a makeup remover or a cleanser and literally feels like you’re putting conditioner on your face. It doesn’t burn your eyes and definitely cleans your skin.

To test it out I lathered it onto a full face of party makeup. It removed everything – even eyeliner and mascara without any irritation. It felt incredibly soothing and left my skin feeling soft and wonderful. I’ve been using it for about a month now and am happy to say that I haven’t broken out at all! It’s also reduced some of my redness and evened out my skin tone. The website claims it’s purifying, nourishing, soothing, and gentle, and I am happy to say that all of these are 100% correct. It’s clearly the best daily face wash I’ve ever used.

Bonus! It came in the cutest box with STICKERS(!) and a sample of their Priming Moisturizer, which I must say was on point. I’ll be ordering a full size ASAP, so be on the lookout for more Glossier reviews in the future. Don’t forget, you get 20% off if you use this link.

Have you tried any Glossier products? What did you like? What’s your favorite? What should I try next? Keep me in the loop by leaving a comment 🙂

Love Your Selfie

By now you know I love a good full-face palette. I’ve shared both Urban Decay’s Naked on the Run and Pur Minerals’ The Cinderella Palette with you before. Today I want to share yet another full-face in a box collection from Pur Minerals. The Love Your Selfie Best Sellers Collection contains everything you need to look as perfect as the selfie queen, Kim Kardashian. With 8 eyeshadows, blush, bronzer, highlighter, mascara, and lipgloss you have everything you need to look fab from day to night. This is my favorite to take on trips because with it you can create looks that are natural enough for the daytime, and also dramatic smokey eyes for evening wear. Here’s the rundown:

2015-12-30 16.30.09.jpg

Eyeshadows –

  • Exposure: this light cream, matte nude is perfect for highlighting your arch and the inner corners of your eyes
  • Fade: a matte sandy peach that is ideal for using all over your lid during the day
  • Filter: with a metallic shimmer this silvery-rose amps up your usual look for a picture perfect evening
  • Photobomb: with tiny glitter flecks this dark plum shade will give you a dramatic smokey eye that will keep everyone hypnotized
  • Flash: similar to Fade, this neutral nude contains just enough shimmer that it’s appropriate for both day and evening
  • Capture: perfect for the crease, this light taupe can complete your matte daytime office look
  • Sepia: excellent for those of us with blue or green eyes this matte rusty brown it total Kim K. drama – use it to line your eyes during the day or to smoke it out at night
  • Closeup: a deep matte black that is perfect for eyeliner and smokey eyes alike

Mineral Glow Bronzer – this bronzer looks very dark in the package, but goes on smoothly and lightly. A light swipe will work for pale girls (like me!) or build it up to contour darker skin tones.

Savvy Blush – Similar to the bronzer in its buildability, this blush is the perfect natural rose hue for day and night. It perfectly mirrors my natural flush and is matte so it never looks like I’m trying too hard.

Afterglow Illuminating Powder – This is by far my favorite highlighter EVER. I’d buy this whole palette for just this powder. It’s got the barest hint of sparkle so that I’m not looking greasy when photographed, and its yellow undertone makes my skin look picture perfect. Honestly, it’s my favorite part of this palette and I use it every time I go out.

Big Look Mascara – If you’re looking for curl and separation, this is the mascara for you. It’s deeply black and never ever clumps. It contains argan oil which not only prevents stickiness, but also helps nourish your lashes to make them grow long and strong.

Chateau Kisses Lip-Plumping Lip Gloss in Exposed – When I first saw this in the tube I thought it looked very 90’s brown. Not the case when you swipe it on. There’s a blush tone to it that makes it look very attractive and boy does it plump! There’s no tingling sensation like you get with other lip plumping glosses, but this will certainly leave you looking full lipped and ready to kiss. Plus, it’s soft shine is absolutely beautiful.

Not only does the palette contain all these great products and a large mirror, but Pur Minerals’ website also provides step by step tutorials on how to create different selfie-ready looks. Here are two of them:

Portable Parfum

Earlier this month I shared my favorite travel sized lipsticks with you. Today I want to let you in on my favorite travel sized scents for winter. Now on most overnight trips I’ll bring one of the sample vials that seem to come in every online cosmetics order, but for longer trips I like to pack something a bit more sturdy. While the vials can give you at most two days of scent, rollerballs and delux sample size pieces can last far longer. That way if you’re going home for the holidays or around the world for the new year you’ll always be sure to smell fresh. Here are my favorites:

Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb Rollerball – Flowerbomb is one of my favorite scents for winter. With a rich explosion of florals including jasmine, rose, orchid and freesia this scent is both alluring and decadent. I tend to gravitate to Oriental scents and find that this one transitions well from day to night, making it a great option for travel.

Narciso Rodriguez For Her Eau de Toilette – Often available in deluxe sample size in Sephora promos, this delightful winter fragrance can also be purchased in rollerball form. A sweet, musky scent, For Her includes nots of honey, vanilla, orange blossom, and amberlyn. It’s feminine without being overly floral and deeply intoxicating. I feel sexy every time I dab it on, making it perfect for more formal occasions.

Guerlain My Insolence – You already know my love for Insolence, and this sister scent is just as enchanting. With the same raspberry, jasmine and tonka bean as the original, My Insolence adds hints of almond and patchouli that make it a bit more vivacious. Just as daring as the original, My Insolence is a bit younger and more carefree. This is my go to for girls trips.

Dior Sauvage – There are times when I’ll wear men’s cologne instead of feminine perfumes. My go to is this Johnny Depp approved eau de toilette. It is both regal and raw with a juiciness that keeps me from smelling overwhelmingly like man. My favorite part of this scent is its pepper note that distinguishes it from most woodsy men’s fragrances. If you’re looking for something powerful and even anti-feminine, this is the scent for you. Ladies, don’t ever be afraid to steal beauty tips from the boys! You certainly will smell unique.

Cherries in the Snow

If you had to ask me what my favorite nail polish color was Revlon’s Cherries in the Snow would be at the top of my list. Today I’m going to let you in on a little secret- there’s a matching lipstick.

The women of my family have been wearing Cherries in the Snow on our lips and nails for generations. It’s iconic, beautiful, daring, and close to my heart.

Not only is the polish classic and wearable but the lipstick, one of Revlon’s Super Lustrous Creme Lipsticks, is utter perfection. It smooths on easily and moisturizes as you wear it. The finish is almost matte, but has a soft velvet shine to it and the color lasts all day and night. What makes it really pop is the color. Too many reds today tend towards orange. This one is more blue, but not to the point of becoming a berry. With my pale skin it looks like something out of Snow White or, honestly, like cherries in the snow. Absolutely stunning!
